摘要：
This presentation outlines plans for a project on the meaning and measurement of progress, and of the relationship between progress and happiness. That is, it explores the objective factors that might be regarded as defining progress as well as the extent to which progress is subjectively experienced as such. Having defined and identified measures of progress, the project aims to assess how much progress there has been in the world since 1750, at which point industrialization began and the fortunes of northwest Europe and the United States took off relative to other parts of the world.
